A 6.9km deep tunnel intercepting combined sewer overflows, protecting the River Thames from 16 million tonnes of annual pollution.
The eastern section of London's super sewer, Tideway East, comprises a 7.2m internal diameter tunnel constructed at depths of 35-65m through complex London Clay and Lambeth Group geology. Seven drop shafts and two vortex drop structures manage hydraulic transitions. Real-time monitoring via fiber-optic distributed sensing ensures long-term asset performance.
